Lloyd K. Harnish

Lloyd K. Harnish, 85, formerly of Willow Street, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at Landis Homes. Born July 15, 1923, in Pequea Township, he was a son of the late Enos C. and Ella (Kreider) Harnish. Lloyd is survived by his wife of 62 years, Helen M. (Thomas) Harnish, of Landis Homes.

Mr. Harnish served our country in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of New Danville Mennonite Church, where he served as a Sunday School teacher, usher, and trustee. Lloyd was also a member of the West Willow Volunteer Fire Company. He retired after 45 years of employment as a crane operator for Andrews Excavating, the former Diller Plank, and, lastly, the former Rice & Weidman. In his free time, Lloyd enjoyed vegetable gardening and woodworking, and, most importantly, spending time with his grandchildren and loving family.

In addition to his wife, Mr. Harnish is survived by three sons: J. Donald, husband of Lindsay Harnish, of Conestoga, Gerald T., husband of Jean Harnish, of Bainbridge, and Gary Lee, husband of Charlene Harnish, of Chambersburg; two brothers: Rev. Amos K., husband of Miriam Harnish, of Lancaster, and Parke K., husband of Kathryn Harnish, of Willow Street; a sister, Esther Mae Dagen, of Lancaster; nine grandchildren, and two step-grandchildren. Lloyd was preceded in death by his stepmother, Barbara Barr-Harnish; three brothers: Aaron K. Harnish, Clayton K. Harnish, and Enos C. Harnish, Jr.; and two sisters: Anna Mary Peifer and Elizabeth K. Weaver.

Funeral services are scheduled for 3 p.m. Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the New Danville Mennonite Church, 103 Marticville Road, Lancaster, with Rev. Jay C. Garber and Rev. Curtiss Kanagy officiating. Viewing will be one hour from 1:30 p.m. until the time of the service at the church on Sunday. Interment will follow the service in the adjoining church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Landis Homes Caring Fund, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543.
