More than We Can Handle

My family and I have heard “God will not give you more than you can handle”. Whoever came up with this must have been given a pretty meager plate. My Mom and I, upon discussing this famous phrase, decided we’re just hanging on, if we are at all. Or are we fooling ourselves?

A friend of mine last night even had the nerve to call the phrase BS, and I have to agree with her! Nowhere in the bible does it say this, however, it does say, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28). This is a lot different. Why shouldn’t God give us more than we can handle? Doesn’t that mean that when we cannot handle it we then turn to him? I don’t know if we’re handling all this cancer and death at all!

Today’s a big day-we find out the diagnosis of my Dad’s lymphoma, we get answers, some of which may be scary. I’m thinking the worse, hoping for the best. Skeptical all the same.

I cannot say we handle this-but we really have no choice. I’m here, I’m in the now, and sometimes the now is all I can bear to survive.

  1. Most people can handle more than they think they can. God knows our limits. We don’t.
