Reflection on His Dream

Today honors Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, but as someone whose life sometimes revolves around grief, I think of his death today. I reflect to the moment when Coretta Scott King first knew that her husband had been shot, killed, assassinated.

For all those widow(er)s who are here because of a murder, I just need to say that I cannot imagine. I do not know what additional emotions and phases that come with that type of loss. I can only begin to dream about what hatred and cynicism I would have for a loss of that kind, and it is not a pretty or comforting thought.

To all those who lost someone to a murder, to an act that was spurred by violence and malicious intention, my thoughts are with you today. Do not forget what this man did for us, for his family, for the future. I hope you can reflect on the things that your loved one changed for all of you.

  1. Thank you, as always! A favorite quote of mine is

“I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.”

    Amen!
